Italian Sausage and Peppers Recipe/DIY - Sunday Funday Dinners

Italian Sausage and Peppers Recipe/DIY

Today I will be teaching you guys how to make one of my mother’s favorite Italian dishes… Sausage and Peppers! Be sure to follow these instructions along with the ingredients that are listed, and you’ll be on your way to a successful Italian dish. This is a great way to surprise that family or significant other!

The Ingredients (All 14!)

  1. 2 teaspoons of olive oil
  2.  1 pound fresh Italian sausage links
  3.  1 cup white onion — sliced
  4.  1 cup red onion — sliced
  5.  1 red bell pepper — sliced
  6.  1 yellow bell pepper — sliced
  7.  1 orange bell pepper — sliced
  8.  3 garlic cloves — sliced
  9.  ¾ teaspoon kosher salt
  10.  ½ teaspoon black pepper
  11.  ¼ teaspoonred pepper flakes
  12.  ½ cup chicken broth (you can use red wine as well but I prefer chicken broth)
  13.  1 tablespoon chopped parsley
  14.  2 tablespoons fresh basil

Instructions

First: Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high. Add the sausage links, and cook for about 2 minutes each side, just until they turn brown. The sausage will not be cooked through. Place them on a cutting board, slice them, and set aside.

Second: Add the onions and cook for about 2 minutes. Stir constantly. Then, add the bell peppers, garlic, salt and black pepper, and red pepper flakes. Cook for 5 minutes or until the onions are translucent.

Lastly: Add the chicken broth to the skillet with the peppers and onions and scrape the bottom of the skillet to release all the brown bits that still remain. Return the sausage back to the skillet and reduce the heat to medium. Cover and simmer 10 minutes. Then, uncover the skillet, increase the heat to medium-high, and cook for 3 more minutes, just until the liquid is evaporated and the sausage is cooked through. Top with parsley and basil. Enjoy!

Now if you can’t have a meal without pasta like my family, you can feel free to cook the pasta at the same time and put it underneath the delicious Italian sausage and peppers. A loaf of French bread is always good to dip with to properly enjoy the sauces or to make yourself a delicious sub! Enjoy!
